Orchids in Sardinia

This trip is aimed at flora lovers and particularly for those who are interested in wild orchids, of which there are more than 50 varieties in Sardinia.

The best time of the year to look for and discover orchids is the spring; it is in this period that Sardinia turns into a true spontaneous botanical garden. These trips provide an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and culture of the land.
Trips to sites where orchids can be found are planned for every day, and during the walks a Sardinian lunch will be provided either as a picnic or in an Agritourism.
Program
Day 1
Arrival, transfer to and settling into the hotel.  The afternoon is free, and dinner will be provided at the hotel restaurant.

Day 2
We firstly visit the beautiful natural park of Monte Linas – Marganai, an important nature spot where, among others, it is possible to find the Ophrys chestermanii.
We have lunch in a small restaurant near to the Cave of St. Giovanni.
Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 3
Excursion to Costa Verde, a splendid Coast line that retains remnants of a mining culture. See the beaches, the dunes, and the still wild nature and rich flora of the area: among others the Serapias parviflora can be found. We take rustic lunch on the beach and then continue the excursion following the South-western coast in search of the Serapias nurrica, that "hides" among the Maritime Pine.
Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 4
We head towards the centre of the island, more to the North, where we find a different landscape. Near to Laconi if lucky and if it happens to be the “right” period, we may find up to 20 types of orchids, including Ophryses incubacea, Ophrys speculum, Orchis longicornu, and  Orchis provincialis. Rustic lunch will be provided and eaten in the open air.
Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 5
We propose an excursion to the Giara of Gesturi, a basaltic highland that introduces a fascinating and unique scenery, both from the point of view of the flora and of the fauna. It is here that the famous little horses of the Giara can be found, an autochthonous race of horses of small stature. Rustic lunch will be provided on the shore of the natural lake, which, in spring is covered by aquatic buttercups. The walk then continues to visit the nuragic fortitude Su Nuraxi.
Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 6
Excursion on the North side of the Natural Park Monte Linas - Marganai, Gonnosfanadiga and Villacidro, an area of great natural interest. The Sardinian deer (Cervus Elaphus Corsicanus), an endemic race from the Sardinian-Corsican cross can be found in the woods of this area. Among the orchids, the Orchis ichnusae can be found here. Rustic lunch will be provided in the open air.
Return to the hotel and dinner.

Day 7
The island of Sant'Antioco and the whole archipelago of the Sulcis offer stupendous landscapes and archaeological remains (Nuragic, Phoenician and Roman).
